Journey Beginnings.

After an intense week of interviews and exams in hope to secure myself a spot in a fashion course I'm feeling super inspired. Not quite certain that I had the required skills, but from here on I'll only keep improving and learning! Super excited for what the future holds, and what I can make it.

Italia

The Croatian depression begun as our 12 hour ferry to Italy departed. Our first city was Rome. Although I find the history interesting and the churches and architecture fascinating the over populated tourists ruined these atmospheres. We visited the colloseum, the Palentine, the Pantheon, the Spanish steps, the Trevi fountain and various other cathedrals, markets and piazzas .
At night I felt a little unsafe which always puts my mood down, but overall it was an interesting city I was just ready to leave after 4 days. Although, one thing I can't complain about is their endless supply of gelato.
Firenze! Already after a few hours I felt that I would enjoy Florence a whole lot more. We went exploring whilst waiting for our room to be ready and came accross the central markets which sold clothing, souvineers, leather goods and delicious food! The Duomo was beautiful, I couldn't stop staring in attempt to memorise all the colours and detailed patterns over the large cathedral, and was equally fascinating on the inside. That night we went to a pizza and gelato making class! Like true Italians we got to make our own pizza, calzone and taste their homemade chocolate and latte gelato. In order to make up for this cooking class we then went on a Tuscany tour the following day where we rode 28kms through the picturesque country side and stopped at a winery called principe corsini for lunch. Although the food here was very average the wine was delicious and the tour was interesting!
Wandering around the centre and outskirts of Florence was so enjoyable, I managed to find beautifull gardens and hills that had stunning views of the city.
Venezia! Had such mixed reviews from people we had met about Venice that I had no idea what to expect! Most people were correct in saying that there wasnt much to do in Venice other than walk around looking at all the beautiful and picturesque canals and get lost. Luckily for me this is something I enjoy!
The main square was a little fancy but not too exciting, we caught the water bus to the nearest island,Murano, which is famous for their glass making. Unfortunately didnt get to see any of the artists at work but still saw some talented pieces. Went on the classic touristy gondola ride through the grand canal and along some smaller side canals! Got some brilliant photos, but was devastated we didn't get champagne and a personal singer on our boat.Milano! Felt a little more like Rome and Florence. The atmosphere was better than Rome, as was the shopping, but there wasn't quite as much to see as Florence! Famous for their fashion in Milan the high end fashion boutiques were incredible, unfortunately not so affordable for me!

Croatia!

Arrived in Dubrovnik, the capital of Croatia, by plane. Had high hopes of being greeted with a personal sign but was sadly let down and had been forgotten. The first few days we had terrible weather, mostly rain but was content with relaxing and sitting on the terrace drinking tea! Then ventured by bus up the coast towards Split! Beautiful views of the coastline to the left and mountains to the right, a view I'll never forget.
Our sailing tour began the following morning in Split, met an amazing yet interesting group of people. Each morning we would awake and venture out of our dungeon like cabins to the deck and be greeted by the most beautiful views of the ocean and coast line. The days were all fairly similar, swimming off the boat, sun baking on the top deck or reading for hours at a time. The boat would then dock at an island or town each afternoon and we would have the opportunity to explore. Croatia at night was definitely rather wild, we went to bars where the cocktails only came by the litre, huuuuge nightclubs in the towns, a beach party and a cave rave.
So far Croatia has definitely been my favourite country and after almost two weeks I wasn't ready to leave!

Berlin!

First stop in Berlin was Grunewald Forrest! Was only about 40 minutes away from central Berlin but felt like a real escape. The Forrest was beautiful, incredibly green and surreal! During the day there were plenty of people out walking their dogs and wondering, even found a beautiful lake whilst getting myself lost.
Then ventured into the city where the atmosphere was slightly different. The city was filled with young families and teens, I think the idea that they have the ability to grow with their city is appealing and hence the creativity of the city.

Much love, Madeleine.

London Town

Absolutely adored London! As the first stop it was a slight shock at first, but there wasn't a thing I didnt enjoy about exploring London! Was blessed with beautiful weather as I did all the touristy areas and got some amazing views of the whole city and it's wonders from the London Eye! The food markets were delicious and fresh and the shopping was unfortunately good!
Then ventured down to the Isle of Wight for Bestival! An incredible experience where I met so many weird and wonderful people! Camping for 5 days got a bit dirty, but the experiences made it all worth while! Got to see such a variety of talent from Steve Wonder, The xx, Florence and the Machine, Sigour Ros, Major Lazer, Miike Snow, Gold Panda and Ben Howard.
Leaving London was awfully difficult! Next stop, Berlin!

Much love, Madeleine.

It fit when i was a kid.

Photographing all the items I have hand made for my portfolio! Realising over the past few years that there is quite a bit, as well as quite a bit of improvement needed. Also need to learn how to make tops as majority of my items are skirts & shorts!

These are just a few of the photos I took this morning !

My Newest Creation !

Absolutely in love and proud of my newest creation, my cape ! Perfect for winter and got to test it out in Melbourne last week, couldnt be happier with how it turned out :) Used a pattern and fabric, a wool blend, from spotlight. also found some leather scraps in Mum's cupboards for the toggles! It took me about two weeks, on and off and I finished it 1-5-2012.

Beautiful Imperfections

My first year 12 Art Major was inspired by the world's constant fascination by beauty. Using my interest in photography and computer art I decided to present my own perception of society's views on beauty. As I further attempted to research my topic the harder it was to find a conclusion, other than the fact that their is no one defintion of beauty. 'Beauty is in the eye of the beholder' correctly explains that beauty can be defined only by each individual to themselves. Factors that affect these perceptions are gender, society, age, sexual orientation, up-bringing, interests, trends and celebrities. I then began thinking about not only how we viewed beauty in others, but ourselves. As well as the drastic or simple measures people take to create these ideal perceptions. Using a helpful friend I shot some simple and classic portraits. The style, emotion and composition was all extremely similar in each portrait, however the models hair colour, stlye and cut as well as make-up varied in each shot. After taking some successful shots, which I already found beautiful it was time to edit. Using photoshop, and inspirations of many views of beauty as well as the procedures taken to achieve 'beauty' i drastically edited the photos. Most of them barely resembling the original. For my final presentation I chose four photos, each of them varying in style, colour and emotion, yet each as fascinating as the others.
